Northwood were very unlucky not to come away with anything against Slough at Beaconsfield. The Woods started positively, and nearly took the lead after 5 minutes when an AJ corner was swung in, to be knock back by Billy Myers in the path of Nathan McLeod, whose shot was cleared off the line.
When the Woods nearly scored at one end, they nearly conceded a few minutes at the other. Will Norris in the Woods' goal miscued a back pass on an uneven surface by slicing the ball towards his own goal, but thankfully was able to recover.
However, Will was soon to redeem himself by making an outstanding one-handed save. A cross from the left side was met by a glancing header by the Slough attacker which looked to be going in the net for Will to tip the ball away.
Slough took the lead just after the half-hour when once again Will Norris pulling off a great save, only for the ball to rebound straight to a Slough player, who took a touch, dummied around Will and placed the ball in the net. Woods nearly went into half-time on level terms when the Slough keeper cleared a poor ball straight to Kevin Lema, and one on one with the keeper could only steer the ball just wide.
The second half didn’t start off in great fashion for the Woods when they fell two behind. The visitors' defence dropped off, allowing Slough to progress towards the Reds' goal, and fed the ball through for a Slough player to round Will, and slot the ball into an empty net.
After that, the Woods dominated the game, pressing the ball really well and forcing the Slough keeper to turn the ball over on numerous occasions. The pressure was to pay off when Morton Urdal's shot was only parried by the keeper, and as Kevin Lema was trying to follow up was pushed in the back to give Northwood a penalty. Kevin stood up and hit the ball straight down the middle.
Northwood continued to press, and was nearly rewarded with an equaliser when an AJ cross was met by Morton Urdal’s head, but the ball went just wide. The Woods continued to press, but were hit on the counter attack in stoppage time, and so the game ended 3-1, but it was a very spirited performance from the boys, who were unlucky not to get something out of it.
Man of the match: Will Norris for pulling off numerous saves throughout the game.
